Calvin, you’re pushing the envelope by pushing the car without Mom’s permission. It requires a ‘stamp’ of approval. Mom should have left the car in PARK, or in THE Park.

My room mate just got his car back from the body shop.

He stopped in front of a friends house, about 25’ off the side of the highway, and left it running while they went inside. When he came out a few minutes later it wasn’t there. It had taken itself over 100 yards up the highway, crossed it, and ran into a ditch.

    At least Calvin’s isn’t running.

frank corona said (yesterday), “…by you know who!” Yes, Eddie Cantor was one of my father’s favorite entertainers. His wife’s name was Ida. - “Ida, Sweet as Apple Cider”. Maybe Calvin has been drinking hard cider. Something is affecting his judgment adversely…but “What’s New, Pussycat?” - Tom Jones

@thebird55, Your roommate literally ‘ditched his car’. Calvin should ditch this idea. The result will not ‘bless’ Mom. There’s a limit to how and how much we can bless God. “Can a man be profitable unto God as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself. Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous, or is it gain to him that you make your ways perfect?” Job 22:2,3 “If you sin, what do you do against him? Or if your transgressions be multiplied, what do you do to him? If you be righteous, what do you give to him? Or what does he receive of your hand?” - Job 35:6,7 “But who am I (David), and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of you, and of your own have we given you.” I Chronicles 29:14 “We Give Thee but Thine Own” - hymn I wish you a profitable and beneficial bible study today.

Everybody have a great Fourth of July Weekend! What’s everybody doing to celebrate?!

Our town has a Fair all weekend that we’ll attend followed by fireworks. Today we’re all going to the beach and picnic area for the day.

I love the way Hobbes represents Calvin’s ‘inner voice’ but Calvin just ignores it and lets his id always overrule his ego. (I think I got that right. It’s been a long time since I made a D in sykologee.)

Poor Mom. Torn between bragging about how bright Calvin is and how irresponsible he sometimes behaves. I think this is one of those He takes after his Fathers side of the family events.

Awww! come on! We all know what will happen. We’re reading comics. Think of Mom’s face. Think of Dad’s when she tells him. Think of Calvin’s as he tells Hobbes how unfair life is when he is grounded to his room forever and day.. It may be predictable but it’s cartoons.

I love Hobbes’ insight and perspective in the last panel. Great line, Watterson! A very indirect observation relative to the situation, but it gets directly to the heart of Calvin’s - uh - difficulties.

Comment from yesterday on a friend’s Facebook page: [F]lakey neighbor across the street. Twice in the last 2 months, she has not put her car in park. It has slid out of her garage, down her driveway, across the street and into my yard. Damage to her car twice after hitting the tree next to my driveway. (They never shut their garage door). Last year she hit my neighbor’s parked car on the street while talking on her cell phone.

amaze is not the word i would choose in connection with puddleglum2. but it’s a start.

imo all these perky gm’s and bible proselytizing are a distraction and detraction from what was once an enjoyable and stimulating daily discussion of things calvin.

Calvin does think. He thinks all the time. He thinks much weirder things than we do. He thinks a level that does not include the practical.

And thus provides us with drama we would not have had otherwise.

So, maybe the car has a manual transmission. It would be easier to push.

When my son was 4, he got into our old Dodge truck and knocked it out of gear. It started rolling backward down the driveway. It rolled into our car trailer, which was fortunate, because that stopped the truck from rolling out into a busy street.

From that point on, we locked all the vehicles.

We are about to see why Calvin is an only child. And children if you wanna argue then take it outside… that’s why we have chat rooms and facebook. Puddleglum, if you have a religious comment to make about the strip, then do so. It’s your right. But everybody… if you don’t like it, just scroll past. And if someone criticizes your comment, then be bigger and SCROLL ON PAST: Let’s keep the majority of the comments focused on Calvin, Please!

The tiger sounds like Calvin’s grandfather, as opposed to an alter ego. If the car has been properly set in Park, with the doors shut and locked, the next strip should show Calvin’s face in all sorts of interesting colors as he attempts to become the irresistible force overcoming the immoveable object.

    Poindexter,

I agree. People discuss many things on this site. I don’t see why an exchange on the topic of ‘religion’ should elicit such responses. Maybe if we were standing on a soapbox, preaching to the world, I could see a problem. But these are personal exchanges, and they were inspired by the strip.
