thebird55, That’s a good side observation! Calvin’s in a sticky mess, alright. Even a pine cone on the ground can leave ‘pitch’ on your hand. “Climb higher!” Calvin is making his ‘pitch’ to Hobbes. He’s going ‘out on a limb’ in trying to escape. When Mom catches him, she probably will want to tear him limb from limb. Calvin won’t need a ‘trunk’ any more. His trip is about over. But if Calvin and Hobbes ‘branch’ out, one of them might elude capture.

Maybe it’d all be a bit painless if you stopped struggling so much Calvin .. rofl .. :-D

Harocoder, while that may be true, struggle and pain are what comedy is all about. Nobody would read it if all went well.

If I were Calvin, I’d keep climbing. If I were Hobbes, I’d fall to the ground just to annoy Calvin and to clue Mom in.

Far as I know I’m a lone (ar)ranger =^) (sorry for the delay but I don’t always have the luxury to come back to the forum after posting, as it is the beginning of my workday)

Don’t worry folks Calvin will ‘land’ on his feet in the end. He usually does.

Best to quiet down Calvin, maybe then she won’t look up.

We all know that Calvin is facing the inevitable fate of his mother’s mood at the time of contact.

Calvin’s going to kill himself with his own panic long before his mother has half a chance.

I know how he feels. That’s the trouble with many of our sort - we die a thousand deaths while others die just one.

Calvin, no matter how high you climb mom will still be waiting for you when you come down. Best to get it over with now.

Anger and worry are not mutually exclusive emotions - as Calvin will soon discover.

Had to comment this time. This is not a spoiler as I haven’t read these previously - only my opinion and prediction…

Midiranger will be incorrect and Calvin will not “land” on his feet. Instead he will fall out of the tree landing on something other than his feet and mom will be so concerned with his injury that she will no longer feel the need to tear him “limb from limb”.

The more you study the history of religion and compare it to what the Bible actually says, the more you discover this is true.

Calvin, you’re only making thing worse then they are, Moms have a very very good memory ,when their children does something to make them mad, they do not forget it . And when you do come down you the punishment will b even worse, than if you had faced the music to begin with .

And there are just as many of us who like those comments. I would prefer to not have to see these negative comments from people who think that only their own views should be expressed.

You will notice, though, that I’m not telling you to ‘can it’.

Ladyhawk, I was going to say something like that: if Calvin falls out of the tree, mom’s anger will dissipate over her concern for her injured little boy. Try it Calvin! Take a dive! Kids, don’t try this in real life.

What’s worse than a mother bear? Calvin’s mom when she made at him. LOL

Better Mom than spending the night in a tree because when night time comes scary sounds and thingys would be too much.

In the Calvin comics of previous times, it sometimes seems as though he doesn’t have much of a conscience, but this recent series, including this present cartoon, certainly puts that idea to rest. Can you imagine what his mother is going to be thinking/feeling when she finds him in the tree filled with panic and guilt?

Calvin better hope she’s not one of those slapping bears when she fishes him out of the tree.

I have it on good authority that MY Mom was BARE when she conceived me…

Hobbes’ line in the first panel reminds me of that Winnie the Pooh discussion influence, that Bill Watterson sometimes used. “You never can tell with bees”-Winnie the Pooh, from Winnie the Pooh and the honey tree.

I just love Calvin…there’s a kid across my apartment that reminds me of him
