thebird55,
I thought of using ‘mature’ for perfect, but the Hebrew word in the OT seemed a bit different from the NT word. It’s close, though. I wouldn’t find fault with it, but my emphasis was on the failure of King Asa in this instance. In general, Asa was a good king, but near the end of his life, he failed miserably and showed little or no maturity.
You, some others, and I could have significant discussion in a Bible class on this subject, but we will show restraint here.
BTW, I still regularly look back to the previous day’s comments to see what I missed while I was gone.
Calvin is quitely thinking, (Third panel) what’s going on in
that agitated mind!!!
@ Montana Lady, yesterday you said , you liked Calvin & Susie as grown -ups, Wouldn’t you miss poor Little Calvin
and Hobbes, their so innocent….heh, heh……..
“Each to his/her own” ….Someone great at sometime or another had said that. ….As I get older, I am starting to figure out that each and everyone of us has their own beliefs about each and everything. I have my own opinion,as do each of you. If I don’t like your ‘s, I simply move on. I may make a comment , but I don’t think less of someone just because I don’t agree with them. Example: I agree with “Divine Intervention”. I don’t agree with what someone said on here a few days ago about we (MANKIND)being a “freak of nature” Now I don’t think that the person who said that is the “freak of nature” ….Or do I??? It just may be that I still have some growing left to do ………………On a lighter note : I wonder if Calvin will put Hobbes in the dryer on Fluff. Think Hobbes will shrink ??? Nothing worse than the smell of wet Tiger..!
Being a relatively new Calvin & Hobbes fan, I have not seen most of the strips. I am interested to know the outcome of this one. Will Hobbes fur be normal after his soak?
You see, I had a stuffed tiger when I was 6. It was my most favorite possession. One day my mother made a comment that it was dirty and needed to be thrown out. I overheard this and was quite upset. So I gave my beloved a bath with a wash cloth and soap. Needless to say the fur was ruined and he looked awful. I was heartbroken. Soon after that my pet disappeared never to return, though I looked and pleaded in vain….
Perhaps that is why I took so long to warm up to Calvin and Hobbes. The snowman figures brought me round, though … I received a couple in an email, and was instantly a fan…
@fsrstarr, that’s a sad story. My sister was luckier: her orange-brown bear (“Pumpkin”/”Punkey”) eventually went through three (I think) whole sets of new skin, plus more partials…
I carefully wash (and sew when needed) all of my little one’s most favorite and beloved toys to make them last as long as possible because it’s next to impossible to find a duplicate replacement … and I just can’t bear for her little heart to be broken whenever toys no longer salvageable have to be thrown away.
Why do they never tell parents not to give their babies cuddlies which can’t be machine washed and tumble dried? Test it before they get attached!
I was also not informed before the event that it’s impossible to read the Velveteen Rabbit aloud to a child without choking up and needing a handkerchief.
keltii,
We all sympathize with you immensely!
Did you have to eat conch at almost every meal?
Could you see the Dominican Republic from where you were? Big Papi is in Boston playing baseball, and Manny is being Manny. I think he just came off the DL with the Dodgers. If your home is in the British Isles, you might not even be familiar with my baseball comments. That wouldn’t be cricket!
The Tiger might have a different opinion of the experience after the machine hits spin dry. Making stuffed toys that would put up with being put in a washing machine would be an instant hit with untold numbers of parents. With all the technology/knowledge/experience at our disposal, why hasn’t someone come up with this?
Glad to see there are so many good moms here – my mom put my favorite fur cat in the furnace (we had an old coal furnace) and tried to convince me that the new plush one was “better??” No way!! – She had to go and find another fur one just to live with me.

Hobbes has all the fun!

And he’ll be especially clean! I’d like it more with an open cover! Breath is better!

The strip should be titled - ‘How the Jacuzzi was invented’
Hey Marg, hope you are feeling better !
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Wait until you get married. The agitator is front and center then.
MontanaLady about 14 years ago
Or, is Calvin the agitator????
MontanaLady about 14 years ago
Marg, continue on your speedy recovery!!!!!
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Wouldn’t quite be the same for you, Calvin!
G’Morning Marg, Mike, Grog & Fran.
ladywolf17 about 14 years ago
Poor Calvin. Left out of the fun.
alviebird about 14 years ago
Not only left out, but has to sit and wait with nothing to do while Hobbes has all the fun.
moronbis about 14 years ago
Why is he thinking so much? Just get inside the washing machine.

Your bathtub does have an agitator Calvin. You’re it!
Cymbol about 14 years ago
Lets just hope this doesn’t entice Calvin to bring mom’s electric mixer into the tub…wouldn’t put it past him though.
Great to see you back Marg, you were missed. Hope you’re feeling better.

calvin looks so innocent in the first panel
Rakkav about 14 years ago
I see a number of us are thinking along the same lines: Calvin is his own agitator in the bath!
Jungleman about 14 years ago
@Cymbol … don’t throw bad ideas around. I think Calvin reads the comments :P

This strip and the previous strip are among my favourite Cavlin and Hobbes strips.
Sandfan about 14 years ago
A front loading machine with a window would ease Calvin’s anxiety.

Marvee: Thank you for explain “flagging” to me yesterday!
Above all Marg is here again, that counts, it’s a good sign!

Marg is back. All is right with the world……..except…………I’m still waiting for my cool million dollars.

Welcome back, Marg. Hope all is well.
My children grew up deprived - we have a front loader, so while they can see the laundry, there’s no agitation going on. Sigh.

I agree with you baslim
Good Morning, Marg, Mike & ♠Lonewolf♠!
LeslieAnne about 14 years ago
But Sandfan… Then Hobbes wouldn’t be able to breathe! At least with the top loading ones there’s the air pocket at the top!!!!

**Good morning Marg! Good morning Fran and Kizzzy! Good Morning L’Wolf! Good Morning Grog!**
I wonder how many kids have tried to take a bath in a washer. Hmmmmm
LeslieAnne about 14 years ago
And Puddleglum2, yes let’s not add to the agitation, but save it for another time and another place! But I want to join in too!! :)

Some of these stories remind me of The Velveteen Rabbit (text here). A classic child’s tale.

Mom better do something to curb Calvin s cleaning stuff in the washing machine I think.

Maybe Ellie can rush over quickly from FBOFW and put John’s pants in the washer with Hobbes.

@GretchensMom: Your daughter is very lucky.
@bmonk: I have not read “Velveteen Rabbit”, but I will do so. Thanks for t he tip. I am glad your sister and “Punkey” were more fortunate.
I seldom have time to comment, however, I do enjoy all of yours, and visiting this page is a quiet respite that I enjoy. I am glad I found it.
