Better hurry up and set the record straight, Gertie. That is unless you did this number exactly their way, way way way back when! Even if you did, I’ll bet your not still that limber any more.
I’m with you, Joe. Her 2 possible downfalls could be her lack of agility and loosing her wig…but again, the Byrd might come to her aid before that happens. Maybe?
Just because Gertie is a bit plumper than the rest of the dancers does not mean she can’t dance. Common misconception that “fat people can’t do anything athletic.”
What attracts folks to this strip is it’s old style comic strip style so they shouldn’t be surprised that it has an old style comic strip pace. It’s refreshing when other, more “modern”, strips have a daily punchline. I sued to follow this strip when I was a kid and am glad I found it on the net.
Macushlalondra, watch the movie “Hair Spray”. There are plenty of fat ladies dancing. Fat people are actually quite strong (lifting weights all day), and can get in shape aerobically also. Ever heard of Japanese Sumo wrestlers?
I second the kudos to BuzzDog for seeing a little of I Love Lucy in this situation…

I couldn’t agree more with your comments about the pace. I love it as a break from hectic modern life. Your typo in ” I sued to follow this strip when I was a kid” puzzled me for a beat, as I tried to figure out why legal action was required, then it came to me that you meant to type “used to”.
I just realized when Yukoneric said, “Hurry up Monday……………..” that I spend MANY Saturdays saying that after reading GA. I think the pace is slow enough to evolve into weekly cliffhangers that are simply horrible fun to wait through! And thankfully it’s just two days rather than months waiting for a new television season to begin!

Aw, there is magic unfolding, and Scancarelli’s craft is such that I’m not all cynical by now.

I must confess, I’m finally onboard with Scancarelli on the storyline ( and great artwork) but still hope we reach a conclusion by Christmas.
GA is the ONLY strip I faithfully follow, and have for many years.

Did not see this turn ahead! But now I’m worried that my earlier prediction of a Carrie-like ending is still in play…

Um, can’t you gals see that Gertie is a bit, um, out of shape to be a dancer? What a joke!

Score one for those who have the benefit of a few extra years! This I’ve gotta see.

Babe Ruth was not all that svelte.

Babe Ruth HAD to pound the baseball. He could only run like a wine barrel on 2 beer kegs.

This storyline has taken an interesting twist…reminds me a bit of “I Love Lucy,” where Lucy was always trying to get on the stage with Ricky.

Gertie’s last comment “B-But”.
That’s one big but.

Can Gertie do the “Can…Can?” Ughhh…don’t want to see that…..

No, he actually sued news-papers that didn’t print his favorite comics…
