While I can attest that groovy was a late ’60s term, I think people have been getting their grooves on in more recent decades. The 1998 movie How Stella got Her Groove Back was probably what first made me hip to the general concept.
Mr. Scancarelli has done a WONDERFUL job with these dancing ladies right down to their lovely, delicate hands, a feature many artists admittedly struggle with.
Yes, it’s picky, but I have a problem with the inconsistency in the size of Gertie’s nose from strip to strip. Some days it’s the size of a golf ball (or larger) and today it’s tiny.

You are not hip. Not even remotely. You are a doofus.

Axe doesnt even try to claim he IS hip. He said it made him hip to the general concept of the movie. Meaning he learned what it meant. Using slang properly, and understanding what it means makes you hip. So it looks like Axe is actually hipper than you, you mean old curmudgeon you. And anyone who reads the comics as much as we do should know better than to ever call anyone else a doofus. That hits too close to home for all of us.
I have to agree with OldManMountain…..Gertie needs to be consisent on her facial features and body features….she was old, tired, frumpy with a large round nose….now that she has a wig on, it looks like the inconsistency is on a daily basis….she does not look like Gertie at all.

Yes, he’s very good at drawing hands, and not afraid to show them often.
In contrast, compare them with the hand drawings in the current Dick Tracy strips.
If the theater has a kitchen, the cat will be there.
I’m eagerly awaiting the moment when Bird and Gertie finally make up and get together…Like the story line but it’s starting to drag on…

Um, Normy baby, you have serious issues, don’t you? Every post of yours that I’ve happened to read was, shall we say, childish? I mean, seriously, in your posts you sound like my spoiled brat of a sister-I hope that you’re not like that in real life…

It remains entertaining, in spite of the late-1960s slang. I still wonder what Walt’s up to though. Has he wandered off again?

This is turning into a real comedy act.
Through a hearty uproar of laughter and acceptance from the audience, Gertie could innocently easily become a permanent member of the cast.
Keep frustrated, Gerty. You’ll make it just fine!

Reminds of Lucy whenever she tried to break into one of Ricky’s nightclub acts.

Gertie should exit stage left. And Not Norman should take her place. I’d love to see him do better.
Good old Not Norman, never changes. Sigh…

He’s not even “hep”. The original phrase, back in the day, was “hep cat” for someone who was “with it” or “cool”. See today’s Mutt and Jeff.

Axe grinder consistently makes the funniest comments here. He is hip and smart. Knows his comics too.
I can’t wait to see Earl’s reaction.
