Peter: What are those? Andy: Carpet samples. I'm thinking about redoing the upstairs bedrooms. That ivory-colored stuff we have now is just a little too 1980s for my tastes. Peter: Ivory? My bedroom carpet is dark gray. Isn't it? Andy: Speakig of the 1980's when was the last time you vacuumed in there?

Whenever I vacuum, I think of this strip.

Our first rental house back in the mid 70’s had this brown shag when we first moved in. We got a Rug Doctor and some shampoo and cleaned. Every pass changed the color. We had to go back twice and get more shampoo (and this was just a livingroom and hallway). When we were done, it was a blue shag carpet.

Peter’s rug may need not a vacuum, but a backhoe.

Shag carpet! Boy, that was miserable stuff. And yet it was actually popular for awhile - I could never figure that out.

In the 1970’s, Orange shag carpet was “hip”, just like olive green bubble glass, wrought iron furniture and brown or “avocado” appliances. Long hair, bell-bottoms, beaded curtains, disco… ICK!!! DRY HEAVES!! I still have nightmares!! Shows just how close to hell you can come when you allow hallucinogenic drugs and sexual revolution.

Oh, I don’t know. As an ’80s child, I kind of wish I could have seen the ’70s.

I’ve seen the ’70s, I’ve seen the ’60s, and a good share of the ’50s, they all look pretty much the same, just new toys to play with.
