I sympathise. Most of my best school essays were written after the date they were due. All the time pressure was off so the words flowed. Trouble was, words flowed between my parents and the teacher too. I found out the ‘late bloomer’ excuse doesn’t always work.
I remember a lot of my 500 word essays filled with phrases like “and so then anyway because of that” and “henceforth and furthermore.”
But they usually got done on time.
