When I was in school (the 60’s) I sometimes thought if the school were to be washed away in a flood they would go find the building and hold class just the same.
I remember being let out of school at 3:30, now a days they don’t even make it to three.
I also remember getting out of school at three-thirty. However, we didn’t start until 8:15. I interned for a middle school last year, and imagine my surprise when I learned they start at 7:10! No wonder they get out at two! There was also an elementary school in the district that went from 9-4.
We had to get up ten minutes before we went to bed, then clean the hole in the road we lived in before crawling through the snow to school where the teacher beat us with whip.
Tell kids that today and they won’t believe you.

We lived in a rich town. In kindergarten the teacher said I was the only walker.I was proud not realizing it was an insult.

Lewreader–why was being a walker an insult?

The shovel was reserved for the senior class. We had to use a flat rock.
