Looks like Teena was putting a cordless phone (it had an antennae) back in it’s charging cradle. Actually, cordless phones are the only phone that is safe to use during a storm. Because it is wireless, there is no path (wire) for lightning to follow. Just don’t use the corded type.

The TV should be left on in case there is a CONELRAD alert.

I think it is Tess (Teena’s mum) in this strip… in the first frame it’s recognisably her, even if in the last she’s gibbering with terror. But a little coninuity thing: in the first frame she appers to be wearing a sleeveless top, in the last she’s in a t-shirt of some sort which is partially covering her upper arms? She could have put it on between first frame and last, but the girls are still in swimming cossies….

What does having a fear of Thunder Storms have to do with being an adult? She WAS the adult by making sure the girls were inside before the storm starts, also, according to Teena, has taught her all the ways to be safe during a storm… doesn’t that ALSO make her the adult? Maybe I’m missing something?

The lightning rod was invented to divert from the house to prevent striking the house leading to fire, electrocution, and possibly explosion. Lightning rods over an area will drain a thunderstorm of some of its charge.

Not too long before Ben F’s time people would not save people from a burning building or the building from fire if started by a lightning strike because it was seen as God’s vengeance on some wicked deed. Ben F. did not just prove lightning was just electricity, but that it was a natural event and not anger from an invisible deity.

“Cossie” is a British slang word, a contraction for “swimming costume”. Sorry about the wait for a reply!
