One problem: people wanting to bring their drinks or treats into where the books are. That leaves very small trails of food particles, and they attract pests that eat up books. Ever hear of silverfish? The notion of “bookworms” is not just about people who spend lots of time reading. Coffee stands and snack bars may be fine, but I just hope they have a way of keeping things copacetic.

I think today’s ‘toon was updated. This strip was in our newspaper years ago and I don’t remember this particular outcome.

Oh, come on. I LOVE the spoor of the previous readers. And the kids in a library? or a bookstore? There might be hope for the culture after all.
