My father wanted to get an artificial tree one year. I begged him not to (I was about 15). He complained about the needles. I told him that I would both keep the tree watered AND vacuum regularly if he would get a real tree. We kept that bargain until I got married & moved out at 20.
We switched to (realistic) artificial after taking our dachshund Lindy to the vet to get the needles out of her stomach. Still get real wreaths, though.
