Usually in high school track, they run in front of empty stands. This from a track parent.

Some parents’ job IS being a parent. It’s not being a “helicopter” to want to see your children’s accomplishments. Are my husband and I “helicopter” parents because we watched our daughter recite a poem at her school’s Memorial Day Celebration? While neither of us were scheduled to work that day, my husband had just gotten off his 3rd shift job. To him, seeing our daughter do this was more important than getting a little extra sleep. That is not “helicopter”. That’s being a parent.

I like track. They’re not out there imagining, every one of them, that they’re going to make ten million a year. Few track pros in those megamansions.

The closest high school cross country/track team run a 5K loop around the lake, through residential neighborhoods, across 2 busy bridges and 4 parks. We have a LOT of parks in our town.

Our older son was a pretty good baseball player. My wife missed only one of his hundreds of games over ten years, the only time he hit three homers in a game.
