Because it’s been 100 years since a Republican ever gave a black person a REASON to vote for them…

A liberal Republican (Richard Nixon) ignored them, and John F. Kennedy accepted them.

Yeah, I always thought it was funny how things have reversed. After the Civil War most freed slaves became Republicans. The Democrat party, especially in the South, became the party doing it’s best to return to the bad ole days. We have to remember it was after the Civil War when the Republican party first disgraced itself with Radical Republicanism. They did their best to punish the South for the ‘insurrection’ and all it did was create more hate. Until the Republicans abandoned the freed slaves after the election of Rutherford B. Hayes and the ending of Reconstruction. After that it was another 80, 90 years or so until blacks had any political power anywhere, other than in court.

Don’t forget, the Emancipation Proclamation didnt really free any slaves. Slaves in Northern states, such as KY, MD, DE and MO all remained in bondage. And the Southern states only laughed at the thought of it. It was the 13th Amendment, ratified in Dec. 1865 (more than six months after the death of Lincoln) which abolished slavery.

The Democratic Party started supporting Civil Rights (Republicans missed the boat) because they HAD to. They needed to overcome their horrific history of slavery and racial segregation. If the Democrats can get away from their roots, the Republicans can get back to theirs.
