Kennedy ruined the space programme, don’t get me wrong I’m 100% behind the space programme,it actually paid for itself with the spinoff technology, the very technology these idiot naysayers use to put it down. While I understand the politics of Kennedy’s decision it stiil ruined the programme
by devoting everything to a one off goal rather than incremental steps. The X plane programme was sub orbital in the early 60’s and if they had just keep moving that way in small steps we would probably be living on the moon now.I think it’s kind of like the Wright bros say OK now we can fly lets make the next step a 747 with out anything in between. We need pure science for sciences sake with out first knowing what the result will be or how much profit can be had, that’s for further down the line.
yeah we were daviddeer, yu can put away the timfoil hat. They figured Shepard’s golfball traveled about 1500 yards. Can you imagine hitting a superball with a baseball bat? You might get it into lunar orbit, lol. Gotta disagree with someone_different, the end result is the reason for exploration, otherwise why explore?
I just remember it was a wonderful night when our first astronauts stepped off that ladder. We watched it on a small TV in a beach cottage in Kitty Hawk, NC, near where man made the first successful flight. Figures were mighty indistinct (TV only had rabbit ears) but Armstrong’s voice as he descended the ladder came through loud and clear! “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”

can’;t believe all the prople from yesterday that believe that space programs should be shhut down. And yet, seem to be bright folks.
On to space - Yes, it is money WELL spent. Save the oceans from polution and get into space…that’s what should be the ONLY next things to do .

Went to the moon and all they brought backs were Moon Rocks and “Lunar Ticks”. XD
BTW, whatever happened to the golf ball?

Because we were never there.

Maybe we should have left the Moon in peace for all mankind?

We didn’t come for all mankind; we came to beat the Soviets.
Not that I object to going back! Better to spend money in a peaceful competition than in a war.
