I’ll opt for the truth of the cartoon. On occasion, familiarity may breed intimacy, but look at the world today and tell me what you see in over abundant supply. I think you’ll find it’s contempt.
In a world where “romance” is glorified in the media and the actors/actresses jump from relationship to relationship (and always with publicity too) it is no wonder that people get false ideas about marriage. Marriages involve work, not just lust until the glamour is tarnished. Been married over 35 years, and would do it again with the same partner even with 20/20 hindsight. Yes, it has been work at times; but in the end well worth it. (and the other half agrees!)

I would laugh but it hurts too much.

I’ll take what’s behind Door Number Two, “Familiarity Breeds Intimacy”.
Crazy, isn’t it, that cartoon birds and real-life humans forget that…maybe because one has to cultivate that particular garden…

Didn’t Jeff MacNeely name him P. Shoemaker MARTIN, after the Martin birds?

Churchill said it, so I don’t claim originality: Without familiarity you can’t breed anything at all … :P

Familiarity breeds contempt. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
