The longest evening of my life was spent in a private room in a Karaoke Bar in Hanoi in the early 90s, as the guest of an obviously frequent visitor who was with a Japanese company we were visiting. Four of us including him, four young ladies who made sure our beer glasses were always full of 333, and mama-san to make sure nothing ‘inappropriate’ happened. The dinner beforehand at the company staff house was excellent, though I will never develop much of a taste for Misso Soup, but all l I wanted to do afterwards was go to the hotel and sleep, but……..
