I think Jo Jo meant the knowledge that you’re helping someone is all the compensation you need – and it’s great. We have an after school reading program for kids struggling in school. I’ve been part of it for 10 years. One day I got there before school got out and ran into a kid who was in there last year. She said, “I’m mad at you.” When I asked why, she said it was because they didn’t let her back in the program this year. The reason was, her grades had gotten so good, she was near the top of the class. But she still wanted in. That was a good day.

It may be volunteerism, but the compensation is still pretty good.

That wouldn’t, of course, include the snake. He’d get his customary clubbing.
