Thing is, they’ve proven that the first 2 panels are accurate for a lot of people. There are doctors who have to carefully balance what they say, for powerful medicines, to balance informed consent while stressing the benefits enough and pointing out that for most drugs only a small percentage had one or two side effects… Sure, chemo will usually cause certain symptoms, but it is a real phenomenon!

I always mock the commercials that have the long list of potential side effects. If you really listen to them, it’s surprising that anyone takes those drugs (i.e. trouble breathing, increased risk of heart attack).

I love it when they advertise sleep medicine where a potential side effect is insomnia, or a stomach medicine with possible side effects like nausea/vomiting/acid reflux.
I also wonder how many people went and told their doctor that they had restless leg syndrome when those Requip ads first came out on TV. Who needs med school when you have Madison Avenue?

I always think the side effects are worse than the sickness you’re trying to alleviate with the medication. Therefore I take no medications other than ibuprofen for headaches.
As for Irving’s mother, it’s time to have her taken away to the funny farm before she drives the rest of you nuts.

I hate that the stupid rug companies run ads for their drugs to the public. All that does is create hypocondriacs like this. She saw that the drug could help certain sympoms and now, by golly, she has those symptoms and needs the drugs! So the drug comanies spend millions to make people like her hypocondracs and then they charge us an arm and a leg if we actually need the medicine. The drug companies need to stop running ads to the public and instead concentrate on making prescription meds affordable!
