Andy: Roger, I hope you didn't pay a lot of money for this thing. Roger: No- that's the best part! Some of the cell phones they had cost hundreds of dollars. Some where as cheap as a dollar apiece. But your bargain hunger husband found his hiding in the back! You're not going to believe this, but they actually paid me to take it off their hands! Andy: Gee. Fancy that. Roger: The mobytel-2000. (oof) I assume the "Moby" is short for "mobile"

Is it white? If so I’d say it was ‘Moby Dick’ and probably as big a stinker as a dead whale.

White Elephant sale??

It even has a name like an old military satellite (MOBYTEL probably being some weird acronym as well as an in-joke).

Moby Dick? Read the story. A pen pal of mine explored with a white whale once. Only it’s named was “Beluga”.

Knowing his luck, the one and only satellite the phone connected too is properly gone and been de-orbited.

Like an albatross around your neck, very mobile. I wonder if it will fit in my pocket?

I can just see Gregory Peck now: “Have ya seen the white cell phone? “Have ya seen Mobytell?”
Wait until the charger cable (must be at least an inch in diameter) gets tangled around his leg and pulls him into the bathtub.

I’d like to see Roger use the belt clip with that thing.
If he took it on a flight he would have to pay for another seat.

I wonder if Roger will pick up the boom box, I think back then was popular long before ipods. Imagine people lugging that monstor around.

I hear the Japanese counterpart was named Cellzilla. Had to be discontinued when the first model, quite surprisingly went on a rampage and leveled Tokyo.
Totally unlikely, but I just had a picture in my mind of Roger’s cellphone being harpooned by a peg-legged man at the end of this week’s arc. That would be sooo funny.

My first cell phone was the best. All I care about is making and receiving calls. It had a trimode feature which allowed me to get signals where today’s phones get none. Had to get rid of it when we started traveling and needed to use the phone for internet connections.

Suppose this Moby of his makes him a Dick?

In the book this is in it was the Moby-com 2000
Mobile? This is an exxageration of the cell phones ever, but most phones were in fact portable, but not mobile. In 2 days, they will reveal that this phone is not “mobile”, Just Portable.
