During the hype for Phantom Menace, and what a pile that turned out to be.

Oh, worse than that, Johanan. This was in pre-YouTube days!

    Thanks, friends.

I don’t know why so many love to hate Episode I so much. Maybe by that time too many were taking the Star Wars epic waaaaaaaay too seriously. (laughs) Or maybe (as some have charged) George Lucas himself was, and needed “a fan who understood” to write the script…

C’mon. Not every Bug-Eyed Monster in that galaxy far, far away has to have more than two neurons in his head to rub together. ;)

It was an awful, awful, badly acted, racist (there, I said it!) movie that ruined the entire rest of the franchise for me. I can’t even watch the original three anymore - especially with the “graphic enhancements” George Lucas added twenty years after the fact to “improve” the movies.

You know you’re in trouble when a Muppet is the best actor in a movie. That said, maybe our reactions to Episode I say more about ourselves than about the movie…

If you’re going to make a character a laughingstock, then no matter what group of people you use as your template for him or her, you’re going to be accused of racism or something like it. (Unless, of course, the group happens to be white Christians…those are fair game across the board in Hollywood.)

Agreed though: in special effects it make no sense to try to fix what ain’t broke. Make a new movie with new special effects and make more money…what’s the prob’?

Special Effect? Why don’t I just jam my thumbs in my eyes? Never saw a Star Wars flick. I have seen many good actors.

The movie itself might have been disappointing, but I still remember the glorious chills that trailer gave me. I was so excited - all the fans were - that we were getting new Star Wars. And despite what it represented, the trailer looked wicked cool when it first came out!

Personally I liked every Star Wars movie ever made they all were Great! I never understood just what the people who hated it were expecting anyway….One of lifes great disappointments was learning that Lucas decided to forgo the final 3 movies…..I still mourn….

Maybe they should have tried the Internet for some good spoilers.

I like the Phantom Menace, or at least don’t hate it like the rest of the world
