The first person I screamed for when I went in to labour for the very first time was my mum.

My mom was not that “motherly”, but she at least made me toast and gave me some sympathy.

When I was sick I still had to work. When I sit down to rest and tried to get up I would ask am I up yet? My hubby when he is sick he is down for the count and asleep.

Of course she looks terrible. She’s sick. And of course being expected to do everything in spite of being sick will probably cause the illness to last longer. C’mon John you can afford someone to come and help out!

TumblersBlue - When I went into labor for the first time, my hubby helped for about the first day. When it stretched into a 2nd day, he asked if he could call my mom into relieving him. I remember saying I wished I could call someone in to relieve me! (30 hours of less than 5 minutes apart contractions, 9 more hours after I received an epidural.) Mom came, and ended up witnessing the birth of her first grandchild. The next time I wanted my mom was when both my hubby & I were sick, and our baby was 7 months old. Mom couldn’t help - she was several states away helping my sister with her dying husband. Mom just passed away (Oct. 31) and so this is especially poignant for me. (FBFW was one of her favorite comics.)

Awwww…… I lost my Mom to cancer 3 years ago. She would always come and take care of me when I needed her too. She was the best.

RMom, may she rest in peace. She seemed like a great lady. As for this strip, this is a sad state. I guess this is the “For Worse” part of marriage but really, this is not a good marriage. It’s too one-sided.

summerdog. You are obviously a man and never been in the Mom position. On duty 24/7 especially when you’re sick because you are then an unmoving target for any question or complaint. & omg the whining when everybody is sick at the same time. I still miss my Mom who would show up with soup for supper and ginger ale when I had a cold and three kids at home. She even did the dishes and threw in a load of laundry while she was there. I can so empathize with Elly.

Wrong! I’m a mom of boys and grandma of boys.

My comment is just for the funny bone. I wanted to avoid repeating the comments of others.

i love this strip! it’s adorable! and her hubbie is sweet i’m sure he’d bring her chicken soup or something if she just askes him! and anyway, she’s just whining for a sec, for the benefit of the comic strip. very cute.
