While that might technically be true, I think this is another strong example of how trying to “modernize” translations loses something. The older “Stranger” or even “foreigner” makes much more sense.

cabrobst: I want to thank you for answering my question from last week about pirates. Why where my sister goes allows I don’t know. I didn’t know there where sailors I thought Jesus followers where fishermen. I am also happy the horror of Halloween is over. Near us was a haunted small town used chainsaw I lost a lot of sleep. My sister feels her denomination is a strong belief in KJV. Me I rather use ASV. Where I go the pastor uses ASV and is young, married with 3 children.

I think it’s sad how bigoted Americans have become, even about Bible versions. I frequently read in my Greek New Testament, and find my own translating is no better than anybody else’s. Really, they are all alike! I wish we would meet some friendly space aliens as in today’s cartoon, then those who feel the need to be prejudiced can be prejudiced about little green men and love all mankind. The need for bigotry comes from an insecurity about one’s own adequacy.
