Well, maybe they can get Mars ready for all of us to live there. Doesn’t that seem reasonable? Wouldn’t want to waste money on making this planet right now would we?
When I was a teenager, about 50 years ago, I was a huge fan of science fiction. One day, in a desperate attempt to make human contact, my father told me, “Someday man will walk on the moon. It won’t be during my lifetime but it will be during yours.”
Well, he recently turned 95, so I say, “Someday man will walk on Mars. It won’t be during your lifetime, but it will be during mine.” At least I hope so, although it’s looking like I’ll have to live to at least 95 to see it.
But I have a shot at it. When the moon landing occurred, my father’s mother was still alive, as she was when the Wright Brothers first flew. And HER mother, who saw Abraham Lincoln in his coffin, was living when the X-1 broke the sound barrier.
This is why I’d like to live to 120: to see what happens next.
