April: Can I watch the surgery? Laura: Sure, but you'll have to put on a mask and gown, and do exactly as you're told. April: Ok! Is she anasthetized? Laura: Yes...and you can hold the basin while I shave her tummy. Dr. Simmons: Wipe, please. Tweezers. Pull harder. Tighten the ligatures. Cut. Gauze. No bleeding? Good job. Let's close our puppy up. Laura: Are you ok, April? April: Sure! I've seen stuff like that before lots of times! It just smells way different than it does on television!

I felt that way witnessing my first autopsy. Anatomy books don’t smell the same.
