That would make it hard for the rest of the world.

Thank God I am not a woman. You lovely beings have my full respect. Raising a child takes an expert and I as a man know that I do not have the skills, the desire, or the cojones for the job. Fortunately, I was at least smart enough to realize this before I had children. ALL PRAISE THE ALMIGHTY CHICK. Oops, I mean woman. I’ve been bad, spank me.

There’s hardly a more helpless feeling, especially at 2 in the morning.

Teach baby sign language and you’ll be able to communicate much better!

Pins! I used to have to check for open pins on diapers. You won’t hear that said today.

That’s what I read somewhere but have not tested the theory, that a baby can learn to sign much sooner than they can learn to speak so they can communicate sooner like at about 4 months.

Might be funny if I wasn’t playing this game last night.

I would almost think that this is the one where Lizzie goes to the hospital, but I think she’s too young yet. Could be wrong of course.

Elly! I hope you would not shake Lizzie for no reason. Don’t abuse her while she cries hysterically. Try to calm and soothe her till she will stop crying and feel better.

Arsmall and Macushlalondra, some of them already learned to use sign language to communicate with the baby. Some of them don’t use it. It would be nice to learn the sign language to communicate with the baby. And teach the baby the sign language, too. That will be helpful. Wink! ;-] The deaf parents teach their hearing babies the sign language so they can communicate better.

My FATHER, thank-you-very-much, solved this problem with me by saying to heck with warming formula one night and just giving me cold cow’s milk straight from the fridge. I slept through the night, and never had formula at night again!

i think poor lizzie just wanted to be held. it always seems to get worse when you lay them down to check the dypers. i found that what works is when you turn on the tv and let them watch the colors, or when you sing to them. that is what i had to do. It is a hard job and it is the best job. NO I DO NOT HAVE ANY KIDS, yet. i am the oldest of the 9 or 10 grand kids so i did a lot of babysitting. the youngest is 3 months, the 2nd youngest is 2 years. it is always fun. it takes a lot of time and little sleep.

Wildmustang: I don’t think Elly is shaking Lizzie. She’s just holding her up as she cries. I know when my boys were small like this and in the middle of fit I couldn’t figure out I would often hold them up and speak to them like this. Because some small corner of your sleep-deprived mind hopes that a sudden tantrum-stopping solution will come to you.

Has Lizzie become younger in this strip recently..? When toddling around with her potty on her head she appeared to be at least 15 months old - in today’s entry Lizzie looks no older than 9-12 months, especially in the last panel. Just the size perspective I guess.

I think Lizzie’s size has to do with the re-drawn strips. This looks like an old one, and the bigger, slightly different looking Lizzie (like on Sundays) are new ones.

UP TO AGE 2, THEY ARE TEACHING KIDS HOW TO WALK AND TALK. AFTER THAT IT’S, “SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP!!”

ahhh, thanks summerdog for supplying the info. I’m not exactly up to speed on the current variations in Johnston’s strip, though I’ve followed it since Lizzie was originally a pre-schooler, in our local paper. I suppose I should visit the FBOFW website and blog, but haven’t got round to it yet :)

It’s true my friend’s baby can sign more milk juice and other words. I wish I knew this when mine were tiny.
