I have a problem figuring out why everyone distrusts John when he goes out, but gives the benefit of the doubt to his lovely wife. Women can do the same thing, and heaven knows she travels with some pants-chasers.
John has already proven himself to be a faithful husband and father. Why even worry about this story line. It’s a lot less boring than many of the “how do you feel” panels that went on week after grueling week as Connie, et al, burdened us with their drivel.
Panel 2 seems to be out of sequence. They are already toasting with a brew and the waitress in panel 3 is bringing over drinks to an empty table! Oh well.
First, while Lynn writes some pretty good story lines, this strip is first and foremost written from a WOMAN’S perspective. No, John would never fool around on his wife and never even come close. This situation is more about men like Ted who are secretly jealous of what John has and his desperate need to actualize his dead end life.
But told from a woman’s perspective, that’s also why Lynn doesn’t show that actually, if Ted were younger and good looking or obviously had lots of money, there are LOTS of women who fall for stupid pickup lines and creeps like Ted, and that’s why guys act like that, because lots (but not all) of women actually do fall for jerks if they just have enough self-confidence. So that is the flip side to this as well.

This type of conduct created quite a furor over at Gasoline Alley. Will the same parties condemn his behavior also?

many a wife met her husband while working——maybe she can cut the apron strings

We already know men can’t stand desperation; doesn’t it follow that women don’t like it much, either?

And will he be taking her back to his place tonight? Oh, wait…I mean his mommy’s place tonight?

John better prepare to be embarrassed by his friend’s behaviour. If you’re wise John, you’ll cut out and go home now.

ej, marg and cleo–all on the nail!
As Macush says, it’s time for John to exit–stage any direction!

So Ted says that he used to go there a lot. I bet he got kicked out too many times before. Hopefully, they will kick him harder this time.

I see why Ted still lives with mommy…

What we have here is the stereotypical young single white man.

ah, Ted’s been there so often, they’ve named the pub after him (oh wait that’s the Swig AND Swine, not the Swiggin’ Swine)

Ted is like a dog chasing a car, wouldn’t know what to do if he accidently caught one. Gads what a jerk.

If Ted tries to crank it up and talk too louder, John will tell Ted to pay for stupid drinks so John will not pay one bloody cent for drink anyway.

Wildmustang1262. Huh? Your post doesn’t make much sense.
