Maybe indirectly GEE1A; John actually took lessons from then-PM of Canada Charles Joseph Clark (aka “Joe Who”, specifically for his incompetence both as PM and Party leader–and who was known for many “foot-in-mouth” gaffes); whether Joe Who took lessons from Bidet-on-tap I don’t know, but that would certainly explain his performance!

Its funny how, he makes these comments and we never see her reaction.

He should have stopped with “You look great!” Saying he couldn’t wait to show her off was an insult even before the bigger insult of panel 4! We do not want to be “shown off” like a piece of property. You show off a new car. You don’t “show off” a person!
