I would have firmly believed this when I was a kid - we ALL knew if we dug straight down far enough, we would come out in China. Digging was hard work, though, and none of us ever quite made it.
C&? : Actually, being kids, that never really concerned us, and I don’t believe we ever got close enough to the center of the earth to be in any real danger. Two or three feet down from the surface leaves a pretty good safety margin.
