First of all, your cousin’s child is your first cousin once removed, not your second cousin. Second cousins share the same great grandfather (Google it). Sometimes, if two cousins are close, the child can be referred to as a “niece”. In the case of Jon, his “niece” could be the daughter of his cousin. That can also be the case with Jon’s niece Shannon, who is introduced in an episode of Garfield and Friends. It is possible that Jon could be so close to some of his cousins that he sees them more as sisters, so their children could refer to Jon as “Uncle Jon” and he, in turn, would call them his nieces.
