"There it is...Yes, sir! Wow!" Schroeder exclaims. He sits at his piano, and look at some photos.. Lucy sits on the floor, leaning against the piano with her back to Schroeder.<br> <br> "How about that?" Schroeder holds up a photograph to Lucy, who turns arouns to look at it.<br> <br>It is a photograph of a statue of Beethoven, with a small Schroeder standing next to it.<br> <br> "These are some pictures I took on our vacation in Europe this summer.." he explains.<br> <br> "Here's one of Beethoven's house in 'Bonn am Rhein'..." Schroeder hands Lucy a photo.<br> <br> "This is a sculpture which stands in the little garden just behind the house.." Schroeder holds up a second snapshot.<br> <br> It is a bust of Beethoven, with Schroeder standing next to it.<br> <br> "Here I am again posing by the house." Schroeder holds up another photo.<br> <br> There is a picture of a large house, with Schroeder standing in the front corner.<br> <br> "Will these picures be worth a lot of money someday?" Lucy asks, leaning her chin on on her elbows. <br> <br> "I doubt it," Schroeder gazes at the picture. <br> <br> Schroeder looks at his photos while Lucy looks out. <br> <br> "I don't see anybody could save something that won't be worth lot of money someday.."<br> <br>

They’re worth something to Schroder. That’s all that matters to him.

The really fascinating thing is that Schroeder is completely absent from the strip for nearly two months in the summer of 1958. We last see him here: http://www.gocomics.com/peanuts/1958/07/13 (maybe he’s telling Lucy about his vacation plans before they’re so rudely interrupted) and then he next shows up in September http://www.gocomics.com/peanuts/1958/09/07 where Lucy’s keen to kiss him, obviously because she hasn’t seen him for such a long time! Who says Schulz was just making it up as he went along? :)

Schroeder must be very fortunate to have parents who would take him all the way to his hero’s home in Germany.
