What? My dogs usually like to sleep outside of their doghouse, but once I put an old sleeping bag in it, I can’t get them out! Keep thinking outside the box, Linus.

This is one of my most favorite strips. Schulz pokes gentle fun as he nearly breaks the fourth wall by questioning why Snoopy is always on top of his dog house. It is totally accepted by every character and Linus is brought back into Schulz’s world where certain unreal realities cannot be broken out of. It is so fun to see Linus step out for one moment then be brought back in by everyone else. Greatness.

How come Snoopy never sleeps inside the doghouse?

No Linus, that was a perfectly sensible suggestion, the trouble is this is the Peanuts Universe!

And yes, we know he could be allowed to sleep in the house, the one with the humans, but again it’s for the sake of the joke.
