Peppermint Patty shouts, "This is ridiculous!"<BR><BR> Peppermint Patty continues, "I've hit five home runs and pitched a no-hit game, and we're behind thirty-seven to five! Whoever heard of thirty-seven unearned runs? This is ridiculous!"<BR><BR> Peppermint Patty takes her bat and glove and says, "I thought I could help your team, Chuck, but it's hopeless! I'm going back where I came from!"<BR><BR> Charlie Brown says, "That must be a nice thing to be able to do . . ."<BR><BR>

Well, considering Peppermint Patty had just joined the strip, of course she had had NO INKLING, that Chuck’s team was “beyond hope”. But then again, Roy DID tell her, just a couple of weeks before, that when he first met Charlie Brown, Charlie Brown’s ONLY topic of conversation was “baseball, and this awful team of his, that NEVER wins.”

For a team to score that many unearned runs, there’s either been a bunch of balls hit but the fielders have had errors, or she’s either walked or hit quite a few batters while pitching.

If you are such a great pitcher with such lousy fielders, why don’t you strike out more of the batters?
