Back Around 1967, my father landed in at a Turkish airfield to refuel and resupply.
He was only going to be on the ground for four hours, and couldn’t leave the area of the plane, but he knew loved pistachios.
He gave one of the local kids with a bicycle $10, and asked him to ride into town and buy him “the biggest bag he could get for this much”.
Two hours later the boy shows up with a 50 kilo bag (weighed more than the kid did!) and handed my father $6 and change, apologizing for not following instructions, but he didn’t think he could have handled the 200 kilo sack on his bike, and couldn’t arrange delivery in the time frame.
Yes, my father gave him back the 6 and change, and added $10 for his honesty.
Oh, and Tigger? I think I once paid 11 cents a gallon for gasoline, during a price war between two stations on opposite corners (‘68 or ‘69, I need fuel for my grass cutting business.)
That is a nice story Miserichord. How did he get that big bag into the plane? And if he sat and ate them all, wouldn’t he weigh too much to fly? Ha ha!

When coffee hit 13$ I had some friends going to So. America who brought me back some Colombian that was $1 per kilo.
