I’ve lived in “The South” for 43 years and I’ve NEVER seen anyone dressed up like these Col. Sanders looking morons. Do you draw all your Mexican people to looke like Speedy Gonzoles? Southern people seems to be the last socially acceptable group to be openly racist about, apparently because we all wish we still owned slaves or something. Meh.
If you want to single out racism in coaching hires, why are you singling out a certain region? When was the last time USC hired a black coach?
Also, using “Bourbon” as the name of the university says it’s Kentucky, since bourbon is only made in Kentucky. Kentucky meanwhile HAS named an African-American as their OC (Joker Phillips) and named his as the successor to Rich Brooks when he retires.
You guys should really do some research before you start offending people to make a point.
Hey, NavyBean and Iphelia (real mature name, BTW) how many black Division I football coaches are in the states where you live? Is it proportional with the amount of black players there are? Bet it’s not even close, IF you have any at all.
But you can go ahead and villify a region to make yourself feel more important. The South is used to it.
As a proud Southerner I would like to say: “I did not know what predujice was until I lived up North.” Don’t get me wrong, I look back and shake my head in sorrow of what had happened during the civil rights movement. The fact most Souherners (regardless of colour) still hold to the traditional values doesn’t make them backwards.
As to the panel, In two years Turner Gill will thank Auburn for turning him down. The best way he can get revenge is to make the Buffalo University even stonger and then he will be sitting pretty.
Ginrummy33 - The artist HAD to draw them as Col. Sanders lookalikes, otherwise they might have been mistaken for racists from New York, or Oklahoma City, or Dallas, or Colorado Springs, and we couldn’t have that, now, could we?
Wow, sure hope Millar and Hinds don’t go too far with this one. What alot of offensive comments, from just about all sides.
I live in Kentucky but grew up in Michigan. Spent nearly 25 years in the military, stationed all over America. We have ignorant, backwards, racists people, of all sorts, everywhere.
To be honest I found the comic offensive and unfair. But the comments that everyone left where even worse. And a couple of you need to do your own homework, especially before you start blasting other people.
IMHO anyone who finds this offensive is out of touch to what satire is supposed to do. It’s an exaggeration. That’s one method of comic writing … you don’t like it … fair enough… but to call it offensive and racist is ignorant.
Auburn University hired a white guy with a 5-18 record as their coach over one of the rising stars in college football who happens to be black. Was it racism by Auburn? I have no idea. I do know it looks fishy and leaves itself open for critique … which exactly what this strip is doing.
Oh for the days when people actually had thick skins and could laugh at themselves … we’re living in the era of “you hurt my feelings” and I’m not going take it.
WHat’s next is PETA going outlaw the use of elephants as representative of the GOP for editorial cartoonists?
I’ve heard of Shakespeare, but I prefer to keep my distance from hip-hop garbage. Granted I guess playing turning Ophelia into “I Feel Ya” is some kind of genious.

Reminds me of that greeting card with the plane on it.
“Attention passengers, we’ve just landed safely in Alabama, please set your watches back 20 years.”

Ginrummy: Ever seen the Ole Miss logo?

Fred: Iphelia is actually an inspired name: One part Shakespeare the other part hip-hop … but you’ve probably not heard of either.

No, Navybean, you ARE WRONG.
Bourbon-like whiskey is made in other states, but it is not called bourbon unless it is made in Kentucky.
Jack Daniels is basically bourbon, but it is called Tennessee Whiskey.

Just for the record, the proper name of the school where Turner Gill coaches is “University at Buffalo”.
