prasrinivara, as a kid in the 60’s that’s all I remember. They had a lever you pulled up on to release the ice.

Sometimes the lever bent….fingers stuck to the trays, too.

Personally, I prefer the aluminum, but they’re hard to find nowadays! It’s fun to pull up that handle! (and I’m how old . . :-D)

prasrinivara says: Did they make very many aluminium ice-cube trays?…. Pras, once upon a time there was no such thing as plastic; so yes they made many many aluminum trays.

Believe it or not, there are 32 auctions (+ 12 stores) currently selling aluminum ice trays right now on eBay! Here’s the address for anyone nostalgic enough to want to check them out.

I bet there are lots of Pluggers like me and Mr arceedee, we never wanted an icemaker at all - too cheap to get any appliance with ‘fancy’ bells and whistles that might need a repairman.
