It depends on the species. Here is a quote from Wikipedia:
“…it is possible to calculate the temperature in Fahrenheit by adding 40 to the number of chirps produced in 15 seconds by the snowy tree cricket common in the United States.”
I’d trust Walt Wallet any day, any time. I’d trust him further than our current President or either of his possible replacements. I don’t care if he does use crickets to tell the temperature.

It’s the number of chirps per minute supposedly but can’t recall having tested that.
