you aint her brother (so you’re too heavy) and it’s more of a speech of your figure.

I think we’re going to see the serenade you’ve been predicting, Stringmuse! Gertie will see the Bird in his natural element. I know a blues guitarist who is polite and unassuming in regular life, but powerful and expressive on stage. What transformation might Earl undergo? Will his music be as boisterous as he is now, or subtle and sublime?

This is the second time he’s asked her for a ride. I hope there’s more to their relationship than free rides.

I hope the readers get to go to the Savoy Club too, so we can see the serenade even if we can’t hear.

Considering the lyrics to Angel Eyes, it’s very sweet and flattering to Gertie that he is calling her that.

“I’m off work,” he says. Is he ever *on* work? Always seems to be leaning on the counter….

So, is Earl’s constant harping and borderline harassment supposed to be charming or endearing? More like irritating.

Stringmuse, where’s the Savoy Club? Is that a real place, or just in Gasoline Alley? Isn’t it refreshing to see how Jim shows “senior” love so naturally. Most of the US media seems to think romantic love is reserved for the young and the slender. Kudos to Jim for this storyline!

There is a Savoy Club in Charlotte, but I only know that because of Google. Looks pretty upscale on the web site. Since Jim Scancarelli is known to use real places in his stories, I’d say it is a safe bet it’s the place Earl refers to.

I agree Axe, this strip is a refreshing change from the predictable romance of the young and flawless. I find the whole thing charming AND endearing.

Jim’s locations are sketched so beautifully– like some of those shots of Corky’s Diner recently– I can’t wait to see him depict the nightclub. I bet you’re right, Strings, Jim must have the Charlotte club in mind here. This should be good! And Gertie will see Earl “selve himself”, as Gerard Manley Hopkins would say.
