Oh c’mon. If he’s going to talk the talk, he should walk the walk. Fair is fair. If he wants to quit totally, he can…….just like the multiple others who have wihtout going back now and then. And why shouldn’t we hold our leader to the same standard we do each other? THAT’S hypocritical is you ask me!
The bill will, I quote “not let the FDA ban nicotine or tobacco outright, but the agency will be able to regulate what goes into tobacco products, make public the ingredients and prohibit marketing campaigns geared toward children.”
jm’s point should be taken, the subsidies exceed the “anti-smoking” funding, and our “southern representatives” push out a brick any time there’s a call to end them.
As a diabetic I think it is in poor taste to equate an incurable condition with a breakable habit. In addtion, I am also an ex- smoker. It can be done and there is nothing wrong with holding a President to a higher standard.
I remember Sept ‘81. My first ever snowfall (flurries :p) and it was Spring. An odd month to be sure.
And erm, I never gave in to peer pressure while at school and never smoked until I was 25 and old enough to know better. Kicked it on 2nd attempt a few years later. So, knowing what it takes I can respect Obama on this score.
Reformed smokers, we’re the worst kind.

Yet another Repub parrot. Who put out this talking point that says nobody who smokes can hate the habit without being a hypocrite.
Oh, right. The same crowd that wants to preserve marriage. At least on this continent.

Hey, fine by me.

If they really wanted to lessen the demand for cigarettes all they have to do is to shut down the subsidies on tobacco farming.

Your point was not missed and whether you intended it or not you were.

I don’t think Michelle lets him light up inside anyway. Most of the smokers I know have to head out to the porch.
BTW, how will you react if he successfully quits?

Good on you, oldlegodad, I quit in September 1981.
