Panel 1. Cop has hairy chest showing right through his sweater.
Panel 2. Cop obviously hasn’t been in the station for months, and has never seen Trace-R in the chief’s office.
Panel 3. Tracy is suddenly clueless to the fact that they are robots, after discussing Traze-R with Diet and Liz for endless weeks!
Tracy: “I don’t know exactly, but I think they’re going to fight! However, with Locher running the show, the fight won’t occur until after Thanksgiving, so let’s go hit the local doughnut shop…”
Has Tracy already forgotten the introduction Diet Smith gave him with Mecha-Dick? I know Locher has, but Tracy? (Pssst!…. hey Tracy! That’s your crime-fighting robot buddy. He opens milk and doesn’t lower himself to measly 7-11 burglaries. Ask him to drop trou and show you his little friend and in your spare time, let Locher know.)
Tracy heard the shuffling of feet behind him but was too fixed on what was happening in front of him to turn around. He didn’t even bother to acknowledge the police backup that ‘Chief’ Lizz sent.
“Backup is here, Tracy”. “What’s the situation”?
“What’s the matter with Dick now, is his hearing gone as well as his mind”? officer Kersten sadly thought to himself as he walked towards Tracy. He knew he was the only one in the station who still respected Tracy. Everyone else felt he was past his prime. All the guys said he was guilty of hero worship. He didn’t care! Kersten still felt a tingle down his leg everytime he was near Dick Tracy. He suddenly saw what Tracy was looking at.
“M’GOSH! WHAT ARE THEY”? He hated the way that came out. He thought he sounded like such a sissy.
All that yelling from behind him made Dick lose his concentration. He knew that was happening to often.
“What was going on”? he pondered. “Where am I, Who am I”?
He knew if he remained calm his memory would return. All he needed to do was act normal. ‘Just stay cool”, Dick reminded himself.
“I don’t know exactly, but I think they’re going to fight”!
Traz-r and Brute Force spent another ten minutes growling at each other. Then, something truly startling happened. Traz-r’s think chip kicked into high gear and he said “Brute, this is really stupid! We’re fighting for these sorry humans, and for what? Let’s go over to Milt’s Electronics. I hear they’ve got some chips and lubricants for us.”.
Brute thought about it for maybe half a second (an eternity for a robot) then said “You’re right, Traz. Let’s go. Last one there is a scrapped car part.”
With that, the two robots left the scene of battle to the hapless detective and the equally misfit criminal to figure out for themselves.
BB, you continue to impress and delight. Keep up the good work and the tingling.
Unfortunately, Locher will still be serving up this lame story for a while.
BTW, where the heck is Braces? the art in that last panel is BRUTAL. Dick looks like he’s deformed or something. And why is he ignoring his backup?
Meanwhile back at the station, Lt.Teevo is patiently pouring through an endless supply of emails and text messsages. Why? No one knows. Sam is busy picking ear wax out and Capt. Liz is having all available officers check the local 7-11’s and Circle K’s for suspicious activity. Diet Smith is lounging about in the corporate cafeteria sucking down a plate of baby back ribs (oops, I forgot the hot sauce!)
Maybe they’re listening to some smooth jazz tunes, sharing a little wine and waiting for that “just right moment” that robots like to share. They really don’t need Tracey standing there, staring like some kind of rube.

Where is Braces when this scintillating conversation is going on?

Who’s Tracy gonna knock cold? He’s been in this pose for a few weeks now. Maybe he can’t find anyone his size.

I hope this is not the same SWAT team that showed up at the bank to battle the dogs. Where is the robot whistle?

Tracy looks so sad in the last panel again. I feel like I should give him a nice hug.

Was that a “tingle” or a “tinkle”?

If MF doesn’t beat you to it. Now THAT would cause a tingle down Dick’s leg!

Hey BB, are you sure you didn’t leave a word out of this sentence: “Kersten still felt a tingle down his leg everytime he was near Dick”?
bassmanbob about 16 years ago
I added a word, LVD so’s not to confuse anyone.
