Funny thing is, just visited the Lincoln Library in Springfield, and most of their exhibits highlighted how unpopular he was while he was president.

No kidding. But then again, it doesn’t help that Democrats are running everything they can… And they don’t want to be out staged by any Republican, dead or alive.

I never had Lincoln Logs but friends did and there were always a few non-wood pieces. I could make more complicated and varied things with my Tinker Toys and Erector sets.

    FDR was a better president.

Lincoln did not free the slaves to “free the slaves.” He was trying to level an economic playing field between North and South. The South with all of its free labor was a major economic threat to the North, and its farmers.

Slavery being completely wrong, highly immoral and totally unfair was actually rather low on his list.

With Lincoln alive, there could have been an occupation government over the South for a generation. With him killed, we ended up with the occupation government over the whole country permanently.

There are a lot of high school history teachers who are glad they can’t recognize some of their students here. Lincoln wanted to free the slaves “if he could” but he was elected to “preserve the union,” that is what made him wage war. Freeing the slaves became a tool in that goal. As far as an occupying army? Try living in a real military dictatorship sometime and you won’t be so critical of our federal government. Oh yes, I doubt that the Republicans would let Lincoln into the party today, what? With his radical ideas of income tax, military draft, and having everyone in America considered equal. The right wing would never accept him.
