After deep thought and meditation, -not to mention the casting of the venerable I Ching- the spirits inform me that they will be landing on the Island of Misfit Toys and, uh no, wait, the mystic 8 Ball says that it will be the Island of Dr. Moreau and that they are in serious…. uh,no, the Mystic Witch cards indicate that they will really be landing on…yes it is coming to me now…. yes here it comes….They will be landing on Gilligan’s Iland! Haroo Haray! The day is saved! I can hear the great invisable voice singing just now…

So many variables we do not know. What was their altitude and airspeed? Did the captain contact ground about his situation? The position of the plane when it exploded should be immediately known, as they would be tracked by local ATC and also Canadian ATC, and NORAD. The resulting investigation by the ATSB will open up a very messy can of worms. I agree with m_ortal, it’s amazing they did not get sucked into the jet intakes.
