*How Will Our Generation Handle a Great Depression*? Exactly like the above comic, I’m afraid.

The Great Depression gave rise to a generation steeped in the habits of thrift and making do, which then spawned a generation given over to waste and consumerism. We may need to talk to some of those old-timers and get some tips.

My parents were among those old timers, and they passed those habits on. Our daughter, in turn, has thrifty habits.

Yes. I remember the movie, but my mother was alive when they were on the loose.

This is a nice commentary on the constantly growing set of “needs” people now have. So many make themselves miserable striving to have more and more stuff – and this is so central to the whole economic system.

That said, there are still a lot of poor & hard-working people who would have a right to resent this cartoon. The single mother described in George Packer’s article in the October 13 New Yorker doesn’t spend much time shopping for golf equipment.

Welcome to America as we know it today! None of us want to believe there could be a recession and at the same time many of us aren’t willing to cut our personal spending habits, myself included because it’s hard to fathom that in this day and age that a recession is possible. Not that I have alot to spend, but I definately could improve. Strange how it can take a comic strip to turn a light on. J

To Kingof01 if you are ever in the Las Vegas area, you can travel to Primm, NV at the Fashion Outlet and Casino and see the Bonnie & Clyde exhibit. Pretty incredible. We were stationed at Nellis AFB last year and had the opportunity to go. The actual Ford car and Clyde Barrows shirt is there along with a necklace and belt that Clyde made in prison, letters from the Barrow family and mannequins of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow standing next to the car. No way they would have made it out alive based on the number of bullet holes. Facinating to see if you ever get the chance. If not check it out online. J
