If you go back and read the previous comments, you’ll see that Lady has passed away. The real Lady passed away recently, and this series of strips has reflected that incredible sadness and the emptiness of loss.
A good friend has been fighting a losing battle for his Irish Setter companion for some time now. As much as I’ve loved my canine buddies, I don’t think I could drag out their illnesses like this. A dog can’t understand why he’s suffering for just a few more months of life. Mine always went rather suddenly, and while it’s very sad I think it’s better in a way.
It hurts to lose a pet about as much as any other friend or family member. We lost a cat that was a part of our family for 18 years. She came to me as a kitten in a snowstorm on Kodiak Island. On the advise of friends and family I happened to stop at the local shelter thinking to check out the dogs. There weren’t any that caught my attention so i wandered into the cat area. Lots of cats, but only one meowed and actually reached through the bars of her cage to me. I figured if one could choose me why not another. She’s been incredible. I still miss Jasmine but India helps lessen the feeling of loss. Oh, and she has extra toes and dew claws like a dog.
Believe me the sunshine helps. Clouds and rain just add to the sadness. With sun you can find the spot your pet liked to lie while basking in the rays and have a brief smile with the memory.
My heart is full. Thank you for caring so much for Lady that you were willing to share your pain and loss with us… we loved her too, and love doesn’t end. Lady is now playing with my Buffy and Ginger; I will always miss them and always appreciate their unconditional love.
If you can read this weeks’ series and not feel something…I feel very very sorry for you.Frank, thank you for sharing these moments with us. You’ve done a beautiful job.

Ok, I’m confused. At first I thought Lady ran away, but now I’m not so sure. No one’s out looking for her. Did she die? Did I miss something?
