Probably somewhere in the vicinity of July 20, 1969. We lived in Hanover, New Mexico when Apollo 11 went up and one of the astronauts on board had lived in the house where we lived while he was growing up. So all sorts of news types kept hiking up the hill to take pictures of the place where the astronaut grew up! One of my children had been born in January of that year, so we had our hands full, between the new baby and running into news types every time we went outdoors!
“Mars Next”? Yeah, right. In my grandmother’s lifetime the Wright Brothers first flew and men landed on the moon. I was hoping for a Mars landing before I croak, but I’m starting to lose hope.
10 cents in 1969 would buy you either a Coke or a Ding Dong, today you might get the Ding Dong for a Dollar but unless you buy a canned one out of the machine, that Coke is at least 1.59
