Capitalism — the system based on individual rights, free trade, and limited government — is not just SO right but is in fact the only moral social and economic system.
And before someone tells me this strip is “just a joke”, your mama is fat and ugly — ha ha, it’s just a joke.
Wow, Mitzi, pschearer, chill out—not only have you both completely missed the joke, but anyone who takes the funnies this seriously probably needs to take a break and get some perspective.
I thought it was funny and insightful. And I’m conservative. It made a complex social issue something very simple and understandable. One more frame and four more words could have given it an entirely different twist, “But it’s my gum.”
Don’t like it? Don’t read it. It is an outstanding comic, you sure have an ax to grind. Are you a cartoonist who was cancelled? Now quit crapping all over my morning!
Agnes is one of my favorites! No comic is ever again going to measure up to Calvin and Hobbes, we simply can’t hold them to that standard. But Agnes has good things going for her. Why do you read it if you hate it so??
The world is full of different websites. Or you can even turn off the computer and go outside. There’s a whole real-time world out there. And GoComics is full of other strips besides this one that may be more to your taste. I decided Wizard of Id wasn’t funny, so I don’t read it anymore. Life’s too short.
I am sad, though, that Spot the Frog isn’t included here since the takeover.
Actually, I would hold up Cul de Sac up to Calvin & Hobbes any time. I have not seen Agnes in several years as it had gone into re-runs, so I am not certain if it is now new or still in re-run. Anyone know?
It’s nice to vent, now & then. Art is subjective, comix moreso. Living with her Mom in a travel trailer, Trout would find little to love in capitalism. It takes money to make money, & hers generally goes to bail money. Try to keep the politics to the political ’toons.
I find it an interesting axiom that the brunt of a joke is incapable of seeing the humor in it. This particular strip is a hilarious comment on the “I got mine, screw you.” crowd.
Er, that would be “Calvin” & Hobbes. Clavin, his lesser known cousin, was a failure in the comic world and now spends his time posing for brochures and the like.
I’m sorry that your foul disposition has caused you to miss out on good humor but many of us find Agnes’ off beat imagination and witty monologue’s to be absolutely hilarious.
(And is it hypocritical of you to lecture about high standards of childhood comics and then make such crude remarks and attacks on the creator’s charcter?)
Hey! Guess what everybody! For a small kid to throw out a gripe and mention something as big as capitalism over something as small as a piece of gum……IS FUNNY!!!!!!HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This strip is not political at all and as a die hard defender of capitalism, the free market and consumer choice I am not in any way offended by this light hearted dialogue.
Normally I like Agnes. This strip serves only to bite the hand that feeds it. Capitalism is all about the freedom of the individual. History should show that if someone thinks individuals can be selfish and oppressive, they should observe big government. How many millions of their own citizens did Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and others kill in the process of organizing society according to socialist ideology?Mr. Cochran, I suggest you keep your “whimsical” comic strip whimsical.

Don’t whine, Trout—you know you’d do the exact same thing. Except you’d be sarcastic about it.

You read in them what you read in them and I read in them what I read in them. That’s how it works.

I shudder to think that some have mistaken the comics page for the editorial page.

We never had diatribes on Comics.com, Sigh. And Mitzi, in your rant, you managed to misspell “shudder”, unless of course you actually ARE a shutter.
Sometimes capitalism does stink.

Just because you CAN do something doesn’t mean you SHOULD.

Then stop reading it and leave those of us who do like it alone.
