L’il Timmy is supremely obnoxious. (I wonder how much it would take to hire L’il Guard Duck to terminate him with extreme prejudice?) How crocs move “coup” when dey inside? Will the Kids Club charge Larry for the damage to his vice-pressydential hat? —Politics is SO complicated!

X_tech — I don’t understand either. The site is free; the strips are a gift, and there’s no coercion. Why would someone willingly read a comic, then come to its forum, which I consider to be just like walking into the cartoonist’s art gallery, just to write mean-spirited critiques and even diatribes about the perceived faults of the strip. It’s rude and unnecessary, Why spoil other people’s enjoyment? Yesterday’s “Agnes” forum was an even more horrid example.

@susansunshine: Alas, there is no shortage of people who consider such activities to be not just perfectly normal, but even praiseworthy.

Guard Duck has already rendered his opinion on the treehouse political situation. It did not go well for Larry.

I wonder if Stephen knows that there is a defensive play in Contract Bridge called a ‘Crocodile Coup’. This is where the first defensive partner plays a winning card to take the trick, only to have the second defensive partner override taking the trick by optionally playing a higher card – so that the second partner then controls the lead card of the next & potentially subsequent tricks. Usually a king is played on top of a queen. Sometimes the person playing the queen feels like Larry.

susiesunshine et.al.You are correct, and I shall dry up and blow away but just a couple of thoughts before i go.

I enjoyed Pearls way back when, both in the paper and at comics.com. Pastis was great…awesome display of “humour of the absurd”.

now…mostly rat doing really bad puns. the alligators, pig, goat are repeating themselves which is ok if it is new to you but it isn’t new to the strip.

critique is different from criticize. the cartoonist is paid well for his “gallery”. it is hardly private when it appears both on line and in print.

i still think pastis has talent. i still think he needs to take a break. recharge his batteries before he becomes a “family circus” clone (his worst nightmare in case you weren’t aware).

I remember that the crocs do love their buckets o’ KFC, but I suspect they never made the connection between that and actual live chickens. Another lost opportunity for the dimwits.

Ah, Pastis… a grammar or spelling lesson in so many of your comics. I don’t know if it’s refreshing to teach kids things while they’re being entertained or if it’s sad that you stooped to this level of word play… but it’s funny none the less. ;-)

Pastis needs a break? Hardly. I’ve been reading Pearls since it debuted in the Wash Post (I think its first newspaper) and this Larry/kiddie club story arc has been absolutely delightful. I did not see the “coup” coming. Great work.

This strip is a paradox. The only way Larry would pronounce “coup” as “coop” is if he learned about the word by reading it instead of hearing it. That implies Larry reads, and that’s just impossible!

Larry and Bob are both predators, and if I remember Pearls correctly, they are both hungry because they continually fail to catch the ever-elusive zeeba neighba. If they had access to the chickens, why didn’t they eat them? Are they that stupid?
