186,000 feet per second, when divided by 5280 (the number of feet in a mile) gives us only 35.227272 miles per second. When multiplied by 60, then again by 60, that gives us 126,818 miles per hour. Light from the sun would take a whole lot of time longer than it does to get here from there at that speed.
I wondered about that, too. That police cruiser doesn’t look all that fast, so—- who has an answer to the rest of the calculation? I confess I’m found wanting in that department. Does it give a speed the police car actually could catch?
“186,282 miles per hour. It’s not just a good idea. It’s the law.”Seriously, Dogsniff, you’re wrong and aircraft-engineer is right. See WIkipedia or the results of any Google search. And there’s the t-shirts…
Wow! People all over gocomics are in GREAT moods today!!! And why do we come in a read the funnies? huh? why? try and remember??? it ain’t about the math!!!
I’m going to have to take Edcole’s word for it on the square root thingy—-. So, now I gotta know what the officer’s car has under the hood. It’s not a Detroit engine, that’s for sure.
Actually, that figure of 186,282 miles per second is the speed of light in a VACUUM. Since our alien and police officer are not, I believe that this figure would be slightly different, depending on atmospheric content, humidity, temperature and pressure. Aside from that, I find this comic to be quite amusing. I do have one question: is that alien here illegally, or does it have a visa to visit the country?

The surare root of 2 is a little over 1.414, so that would be just over 263,043.7 miles per second.

I looked it up, the engineer is right— though perhaps a trifle slow.

If it’s a Detroit engine, he’s running an antimatter boost.

the ‘less than intelligent’ cop has it wrong, he should be calling higher authorities instead of ticketing the Alien
