Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for October 05, 1986
Transcript:
Hobbes: I'm hungry. When's lunch? Calvin: Right now. Hi, Susie! Susie: Oh look, you've got your stuffed tiger! Can I squeeze him? Calvin: What are you, crazy? Hobbes is a ferocious man-eating jungle beast! Susie: Ferocious? He looks fuzzy and cuddly to me! Calvin: Ha! Beneath that soft exterior lie terrible mandibles of bone-crushing death! He'll grind you into hamburger! Each mighty paw hides razor-sharp claws to rip the living hide off any human that wanders too close! He's a monster! Susie: No, he's not. He's a big cutie. Calvin: Oh no! I can't look!! Calvin: ...So what happened to the mandibles of death, you sissy furball?!? Hobbes: I was beguiled by her feminine charms. Yow. Go soak your head.

We females can do anything. It’s too bad the men don’t notice.

The female lion is the hunter; the males are the bullies.
Tigers are much more solitary, and so less distinct in habits.

Females are Hobbes’ weakness.

Of course, we could get all psychoanalytical on Hobbes as a manifestation of Calvin’s subconscious and examine the conflict between his agression towards Susie and Hobbes’ affection for her, noting that the affection is what won out here. **But that would be overdoing it, right?

I find it fascinating that Hobbes doesn’t put too much emphasis on that last part, even with that cheesy grin on his face – Susie’s wiles are just a fact of life!
