Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for September 09, 1987
Transcript:
Calvin: Aaugh! Back to the time machine! Run! We must've gone back in time instead of forward! Hobbes: What tipped you off? The dinosaur?! Calvin: Don't get smart, fuzzbrain. Just get in and face the other direction so we go into the future this time! Calvin: You mean we went into the past because we were facing the wrong way?!? Calvin: You think I've got some triple-A map? Maybe you'd like to steer this time!

I heard that traveling to the future requires coming close to (but not reaching) the speed of light, but traveling back means exceeding it. Perhaps they went back instead of forward because they tried too hard.
