Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for October 15, 1987
Transcript:
Calvin: Mom, can Hobbes and I rent a VCR and a tape tonight? Mom: I don't think so, Calvin. It's a school night. Calvin: What if we got an educational tape? Mom: Like what? Calvin: "Cannibal stewardess vixens unchained." Now she won't even let us go into the store. Hobbes: I think we'd learn a lot by watching that.

For a kid with no interest in girls, Calvin sure seems to want to see female-themed horror movies.

I don’t think Sesame Street put out anything like that tape.

Did you know that “Babes in Toyland” is actually a children’s movie?

April 3, 2021. I just found in a storehouse, a VCR player and a stereo from the early 1970s. Also the stereo plays 8 track tapes, cassettes and LP vinyl records. I looked on ebay and the whole lot isn’t worth shipping. Anyway I’m reading Calvin and Hobbes during COVID 19 quarantine. I’m 81 now and feel like I am a time traveler, with so much new technology. This strip is dated October 1987 and I’m watching and commenting on a device that was just coming into use.
